Statement on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

Minister Hussen announces $194-million funding to support education, sexual and reproductive rights, climate action, and peace and security in Ethiopia and Tanzania
The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, has concluded a trip to Ethiopia and Tanzania that focused on advancing development initiatives within each of the 2 countries, as well as strengthening our relationships across Africa and with the African Union (AU). During his trip, he announced Canada’s commitment to provide $194 million toward impactful development programming. -
Canada announces $65 million in international assistance funding to support needs of Palestinians
Canada is gravely concerned by the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and by reports of a ground offensive into Rafah. A military operation into Rafah will have disastrous consequences. About 1.5 million Palestinians are taking refuge in the area. There is nowhere for them to go and limited access to aid. -
Canada imposes sanctions on perpetrators of extremist settler violence against civilians in West Bank
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada is imposing new sanctions under the Special Economic Measures Act. These are the first sanctions measures listing extremist Israeli settlers. Canada remains concerned with extremist settler violence and will examine additional measures in response to the grave breach of international peace and security posed by their violent and destabilizing actions against Palestinian civilians and their property in the West Bank. -
